NEW DELHI: Defending champions Garhwal Heroes beat Indian Air Force New Delhi 3-0 in the DLF ONGC Delhi Soccer Association (DSA) Senior League Championship at Commonwealth Games Complex on Friday. Gangamlung Kamei, Deepak Kumar and Musa Camara were the goalscorers. Both teams played an aggressive game but Garhwal Heroes were stronger in offence as well as defence.
Garhwal Heroes, who have a habit of scoring early goals, did it again in the third minute against Indian Air Force. Right winger Lalit Rawat led the attack and gave a low cross to Kamei who scored past goalkeeper Shibin Raj.
Air Force, after conceding an early goal, were trying hard to get into the Garhwal's penalty box but were unable to cope with the opposition's pressing game. Even the strikers were coming back to help their defenders to get back the ball.
Air Force were clueless against Garhwal's tight defence. Cornered, they eventually lost the ball to Garhwal Heroes who were quick on the counter-attack. The fleet-footed Heroes again made a move from the right led by Lalit whose cross was cleared initially. However, the ball fell to Deepak Kumar who scored an unexpected 30-yard goal at the far post. Deepak's effort was undoubtedly the goal of the tournament so far.
In the second half, Air Force started strongly but two-up Garhwal Heroes did not give them any room to play their game.
In the 63rd minute, Bala Alhassan Dahir dribbled from the centre and managed to pass the ball to Musa Camara after colliding with a defender. Camara sprinted with the ball, shot from just outside the penalty box and netted past the goalkeeper to round off the 3-0 scoreline.
